First Person Shooter with Freedom 2: Covert Strike is a first person shooter with stealth mechanics reminiscent of solo games. You play as elite agent David Jones, a one-man army as you strive to prevent World War 3 from coming to fruition in the action-packed campaign mode. You can choose to use the environment to your advantage and surprise your enemies or use weapons. 2: Covert Strike plays very much like Call of Duty 2 or the old Medal of Honor, your own style of play. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that in a first-person shooter you’ll be on a linear path to the end of each mission. However, 2: Covert Strike breaks the mold by creating massive open maps that let you figure out how to shoot right out of the box or how to stay stealthy. Flash focus can be fun, but it’s hard to pull off successfully because AIs are explosive shots regardless of range. Backstabs result in a one-hit kill, knocking adjacent opponents unconscious; This sneaky approach comes with a visibility meter, so you can see if you have open maps that allow you to take different paths, try other tactics, and play the game the way you want. Likewise, while the level design is extensive, it’s intuitive enough that you can’t walk through them without thinking. The placement of guards and alarms creates a sense of excitement as you carefully navigate each corner. Alarms quickly alert guards to your location, giving you away and putting you in the middle of a firefight, so careful positioning and dodging or shooting with silenced weapons will help you stay hidden.
Despite the praise, the maps can often feel empty, whether due to design choices or unknown system limitations, but that emptiness can often break the immersion when we wonder why there’s a big room with almost nothing.
Exciting atmosphere behind each image. First-person shooters don’t get enough praise for sound design, and 2: Covert Strike certainly deserves that praise. This game excels in creating exciting and exciting atmosphere with great background music and soundtrack.
Alarm sound effects, guards announcing your next move or action, every shot and mixed ambient noise will keep you focused on survival. Backing tracks will keep you on your toes whether you’re walking through the woods or hiding in a bunker.
AIAI’s confusing movement and features contribute to the core experience of any shooter. Too challenging and the game turns into an explosion of wrongful deaths. Too easy and no real need to try other options besides seeing the person, shooting. As many users have said, AI is easy and incredibly difficult. But how can that be?
2 suffers from an issue that most older shooters have, which is a jerky AI curve. When you are in a firefight you will find the AI to be incredibly accurate and will hit you with machine guns from unfair distances but if you are around the corner the AI will crashrandomly into your line of sight one at a time like a domino chain of blind mice. The same rules apply if you are interacting with an AI outside of its field of vision; they run over each other waiting for liberation.
While this doesn’t necessarily have a negative impact on gameplay, it creates a sense of unfair timing as you get shot instantly even though you’re not sneaking through the closest quarter of the map. That said, the use of weapons can often feel clunky to control, but that’s a common flaw in FPS games these days.
2: To strike or not to strike? 2: Covert Strike looks like another generic shooter at first glance, and while some of the same basics are carried over from other similar games, players can expect an impressive and challenging experience. Each playthrough can be made using different approaches, providing an enjoyable experience despite the shorter campaign.
